This is something that I know everyone struggles with sometimes. People seem to have a certain expectation of what you should do and who you should be when you “grow up.” Growing up in a family of people in the medical field, I know firsthand how this goes. They expect you to do well in school, go to college, get a well-paying job, start a family, etc. Here’s the question. Do you want to?

I was talking to my dad one day about wanting to go to cosmetology school instead of a four year university. He said, “Well, I know someone who always wanted to go to school for cosmetology, but her dad said he would pay for college if she went. So she did. She’s a nurse now, and she still wishes she would have gone to cosmetology school.”

So here’s my point. Do what you love! It sounds so clichĂ©, but follow your dreams. Don’t let anyone tell you who you should be or what you should do. Maybe you want to be a doctor, or maybe you want to be a pro ice skater. Only you know what really makes you happy. Don’t let yourself regret what you wish you had done. Listen to your heart.
