This is something that I know everyone struggles with sometimes. People seem to have a certain expectation of what you should do and who you should be when you “grow up.” Growing up in a family of people in the medical field, I know firsthand how this goes. They expect you to do well in school, go to college, get a well-paying job, start a family, etc. Here’s the question. Do you want to?
I was talking to my dad one day about wanting to go to cosmetology school instead of a four year university. He said, “Well, I know someone who always wanted to go to school for cosmetology, but her dad said he would pay for college if she went. So she did. She’s a nurse now, and she still wishes she would have gone to cosmetology school.”
So here’s my point. Do what you love! It sounds so cliché, but follow your dreams. Don’t let anyone tell you who you should be or what you should do. Maybe you want to be a doctor, or maybe you want to be a pro ice skater. Only you know what really makes you happy. Don’t let yourself regret what you wish you had done. Listen to your heart.
