Southern California’s Young The Giant are quickly becoming one of the most exciting bands in music. In the last four years since their debut self-titled album was released, Sameer Gadhia, Jacob Tilley, Eric Cannata, Payam Doostzadeh and Francois Comtois have gone from playing small shows on Roadrunner Records to becoming one of Fueled By Ramen’s best bands, performing at award shows, and headlining SXSW showcases.
Young The Giant formed in 2004 as “The Jakes,” then an acronym of the member’s names. Later in 2009 after a few shifts, they changed the name and Young The Giant was born. Their first self-titled album brought the band immediate success on the Billboard charts and the two singles, “My Body” and “Cough Syrup” were both certified gold.
Most recently, the band put out “Mind Over Matter,” an album that feels like a collection of songs that solidify their addictive, diverse sound in the alternative music scene. In particular, singles “It’s About Time” and “Crystallized” are mellow anthems, a condensed definition of what the future will look like and the massiveness that the band can achieve.
Currently, the band is on the “Mind Over Matter” tour around North America with Cayucas and Vance Joy. They take pride in putting on the most entertaining, charismatic live show possible, and with the addition of a fresh setlist, it’s an already can’t miss tour.
