Bands to Watch: Daughter

Words by Bethany Polson

If you have been paying any attention to the Spotify playlists or Twitter updates of your friends recently, I bet you will have noticed a common trend: the musical styling of Daughter. This English trio has been performing together for about four years, producing heart stopping music that causes you to pause and take a breath sometimes. The lyrical genius of Elena Tonra, Igor Haefeli and Remi Aguilella is relatable to people no matter their background or current situation. Here at Open Our Eyes we like to focus on the bettering of people’s lives and the music that Daughter has released shows just how meaningful music can be in our fragile lives. Sometimes it is just one song that pulls someone out of their own head long enough so they can get a better perspective on their current situation.

Other than creating heart-stopping music, Daughter has teamed up with the Yellow Bird Project recently to design a stylish t-shirt. The Yellow Bird Project is a website that raises funds for a charity of a band or musician’s choosing. This shirt’s profits will go towards Mind, an organization that raises funds to continue research for mental illnesses. Purchasing a shirt can help someone exponentially, if you are interested click here!

Be sure to listen to Daughter’s debut album, If You Leave, on Spotify now and buy it on iTunes afterward! Their debut album is an eclectically recorded composition from their homes to studios across London, with producers from many big names. Also catch them on their North American tour dates in April, supporting the National.
